More thoughts on Reagan in Obama's words

After my previous posting, I decided to do more research on this Obama "man crush" towards Reagan so I went on Google and simply typed in "Obama Reagan"...  here are some other Obama quotes on the 40th President

2006 (NBC's "Meet the Press") -- "Great Presidents . . . transform how we think about ourselves as a country in fundamental ways.... Ronald Reagan was a very successful President, even though I did not agree with him on many issues."

Jan 16, 2008 (AP) "I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not.  He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. "

June 2, 2009 (Reuters) -- “President Reagan helped as much as any president to restore a sense of optimism in our country, a spirit that transcended politics — that transcended even the most heated arguments of the day,”

December 18, 2010 (Newsmax) -- "Without a new one (START Treaty), we won't be able to verify Russia's nuclear arsenal, which would undercut President Reagan's call to trust, but verify, when it comes to nuclear weapons"

December 20, 2010  (The Hill) -- “I believe that the primary engine of America’s economic success is not government. It’s the ingenuity of America’s entrepreneurs... I want to dispel any notion that we want to inhibit your success,”  -- Reaganesque ideology uttered by Obama to CEOs during a lunch meeting

Here are some news commentaries on the Obama- Reagan connection...

Oct 23, 2008 (AP) -- "In Florida, Obama made promises about containing the foreclosure crisis if he came to power. He quoted Reagan to attack the Republican handling of the foreclosure crisis. A noisy crowd of 8,000 was told by Obama, “At this rate the question isn’t just ‘Are you better off than you were four years ago?’ It’s “Are you better off than you were four weeks ago?’” Republican Reagan made this same query in 1980 to the listeners during a debate with Democrat aspirant Jimmy Carter."

June 2, 2009 (Reuters) -- "Nancy Reagan, radiant in a red pantsuit, rested her hand on President Barack Obama’s shoulder as he signed a bill to honor her late husband and icon of the right Ronald Reagan... The bill creates a panel to plan and carry out events to honor Reagan’s 100th birthday in 2011. "

Dec. 12, 2010 (Jesse Jackson Jr. on Obama's agreement to extend Bush tax cuts) -- "“If we cut taxes for the wealthy, while maintaining massive military spending in support of two wars, then the new Republican Congress will be empowered to cut social programs in order to reduce the deficit.  So it will be a choice between cutting programs for the poor, children, the unemployed, the uninsured and veterans or allowing deficits to pile up. That was President Reagan’s strategy: A ‘starve the beast’ plan of lowered taxes and increased military spending that would force Congress to make deep cuts in program for the most vulnerable.”

Dec 21, 2010 (NY Daily News) -- "Barack Obama has a long-standing affinity for Ronald Reagan's presidency. True, he has long opposed his predecessor's tax-cutting agenda, not to mention Reagan's conservative positions on hot-button social issues such as abortion.  But one thing is clear nearly two years into Obama's White House: This President admires the sweep of Reagan's agenda, Reagan's political staying power, his stellar communication skills and Reagan's ambitious efforts to take the country in a new direction during the 1980s."
