The price of gas- Obama just doesn't get it...

~Brazilian cartoon

I was reading an AP article where Obama is telling workers at a wind turbine plant not to expect any short-term relief on gas prices, and this little exchange between the President and a questioner went like this...

"Obama needled one questioner who asked about gas prices, now averaging close to $3.70 a gallon nationwide, and suggested that the gentleman consider getting rid of his gas-guzzling vehicle.

“If you’re complaining about the price of gas and you’re only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know,” Obama said laughingly. “You might want to think about a trade-in.”"

Now let us count the ways that was an Asshole comment to make...

1)  Nothing even remotely humorous about rising gas prices..  It means not only more money to fill up a vehicle which could be used towards other essentials and necessities (filling a 15 gal vehicle each week at $4 would now cost a person $60),  but..

2)  When gas prices go up, its not just in what we pay at the pump.  It means all products and services go UP because delivery costs have gone up which when combined with inflation, really kills people in their wallets and purses.., and..

3)  Not every American is as wealthy as Obama where they can go to a car dealer and buy a new vehicle as casually as one buys bread or eggs.  The cheapest new vehicle of any manufacturer with automatic transmission is around $12k.  That's basically a compact little box with four wheels and a radio.  The average price of a new car is $22k..  and for most, that means a car loan for 36-72 months.. its means more Debt!

4)  Just wondering-- how much gas was used when Obama and his family had a lovely vacation in Brazil last month while exploring Rio de Janiero and other beautiful locales while he was dropping bombs over Libya?  Who paid for that fuel- He or the taxpayers?

Like him, love him or loathe him-  it was Wrong of Obama to laugh off the person's question about rising gas prices as if it was the questioner's imagination.  And it is this cavalier attitude towards the problems of everyday Americans which is why so many people are resenting him.
