Topless Nudity on TV -1969 vs Today

*  Warning..  There is going to be lots of nudity in this posting..  It is done to serve a purpose in relation to the overall points presented.. If looking at a naked human body offends: 1) Do not continue reading, and 2) Go see a psychologist to find out what is wrong with you

I am a big fan of the comedy troupe and TV show 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' which ran on BBC between 1969 to 1973 and then eventually shown in America where US audiences also grew to love and appreciate the program

And finding myself in the right mood, I put on one of DVD discs from the collection I own and watched a few episodes..

One scene in one episode particularly struck me, not for anything specific to do with the premise or a particular joke but how advanced things were then vs now, which I will address in a second.

In the scene, a stockbroker is going through a typical day in his life.. leaving the house, going to work, etc and completely oblivious to everything and everyone around him..
At a given moment in the skit, he enters a tobacconist shoppe to buy some cigarettes and completely oblivious to the fact an attractive topless woman is standing behind the counter..

The woman is genuinely topless..  Her breasts are not shaded or 'censored' in any way and she is standing this way with the camera focused on her while the stockbroker finds his wallet a good 15-20 seconds...

And this episode was shown on TV in Great Britain in 1969. a full 46 years ago without any controversy or demand the show be taken off the air..

And yet..
And yet 46 years later, this sexually repressed, rigid-frigid nation that acts so liberal-minded and progressive called the USA..

A country which thinks itself  #1 on everything and leader of the free world along with the agenda-filled entertainment it pushes down everyone's throat still refuses to show a woman's naked bare breasts on free television!

Won't even do it on regular cable..

Nope..  The nudity of women is used as titillation for men so you have to milk it by getting them to pay for movie subscription channels like HBO to watch crap like 'Game of Thrones'
Perfectly OK to show ample cleavage.. the tops, sides and even underflesh of the breast..  Even 'pokies' through a snug sweater or tight tank top is fine for the FCC

Just can't show that 3" by 3" patch of skin called the areola.

That is 'sacred' and must be protected from children's eyes..

For such a supposed secular society that wants to do away with the Ten Commandment, prayer in school and anything to do with Christmas, it sure as Santa has no problem basing its morals and standards policies on the Bible.

Funny thing though about the Bible for those who believe in it --  God created woman as he did man.  He didn't create 20% of 'her' or 50%..  Nope he created All..
He created the ears and nose and neck and hands and legs and feet.. and He created the woman's breasts and her nipples..   Different parts served different functions but no one area more sacred or special than another.

But we all know this has nothing to do with God.. Its all about man

I've always said that if men's penises got hard and erect and thoughts filled with sex at the sight of a woman's wrists instead of her chest, we'd be living in a society where all women walked around topless but wore mandatory wristbands.

So a woman's body had to be covered not for her benefit but her 'protection' from hungry, horny males..
~  J-Lo wearing the famous green dress and her exposed breast showing in 'The Money Train'...  Really at this point, what's the difference?!!

So here we are... 2015 and Still no nudity on free television..

All these rules..  like you can look and gawk all you want at a naked woman there and way over there but ~covers eyes~ Not here!!

Just like if your a woman and flirt with a man in a bar or club, its perfectly fine but if you flirt or try to meet someone socially in a supermarket or department store, that's just Odd and who in their right mind does That?!

So many God-Damn rules about 'appropriateness' to control the spirit..
~ This seems to never happen for real does it?

Many women still feel shame and embarrassment about their bodies and would never in a million years think of showing their breasts to someone who wasn't at least their lover

A man can take off his shirt and walk around topless any time he wishes and no one thinks or cares; a woman does it and she'll find herself shamed and arrested..

Quite a double standard we allow for a society that is supposed to be equal..

Many places, a woman can not even expose her breast to feed her infant without charges of indecency..
~ Television treats this beautiful, natural act as akin to pornography

And yet we pat ourselves on the backs and tush-tush that there is legal and societal tolerance where everyone can date and fuck and marry anyone and do every wild, crazy bedroom act imaginable as long as consensual..

And yet American television treats a woman's bare breast as taboo

Except if its a tribe of black Africans dancing around with spears..  Then its perfectly OK to show on PBS or National Geographic

And topless white women are fine as long as its 'Schindler's List' or other Holocaust film showing naked women tragically horrifically marched to the showers..   That is perfectly OK to show on network TV because no one who is naked is happy..
There is absolutely no reason why in 2015 American TV can't show a topless female like every other Western nation in the world,

Its all about sexual repression, power and using the woman's breasts as commerce.

That's why Jennifer Lawrence was so angry last year her selfies were released onto the Internet..  Privacy concerns? Sure..  Also her ability to command top dollar to do a film that required nudity was now infringed

Nothing in life is ever what it seems..
And so as TV viewers we go on watching endless blood, gore and senseless violence and they trying oh-so-hard hard to push the profanity envelope

And the woman's breasts are meant to tease and torment adolescent boys and even more juvenile adult men; a woman's breasts used semi-uncovered as mere props to sell products in commercials and keep viewers' eyeballs glued..

Just can't show that bare nipple..

So sayeth the FCC, So sayeth the flock.
