Dem' Yanks with their banks and Wall Street and focus on profits sure didn't care all too none about it..
Even started a needless, bloody civil war over it.
Two years later on December 31, 1862, the western counties of Virginia decided to secede from the rest of the Confederate state and re-join the Union as 'West Virginia'
The Union didn't mind that secession one damned bit..
Being a Civil War buff, I often think about it-- not just names, dates, places and faces but everything from the daily life of the average soldier, the technology of the day, medical treatment for the wounded and sick, etc..
And ultimately that it never needed to take place.
There will always be those who believe it was all destined and necessary - they are usually the anti-slavery zealots who think 600k dead ultimately was a good sacrifice so the black can be free to milk the system and shut down traffic and businesses with an empty #blacklivesmatter (they don't) campaign
The loss of life actually is greater when you take into consideration the amount of re-population that never took place because so many lost their lives prior to their 25th birthday.
If one was to guesstimate where a generation turnover was 25 years and 50% of those dead during the war would have been alive to repopulate under normal circumstances, and say 50% of that generation produce one child, etc..
The loss in human life up to the present is actually more like at minimum 1.2 million less Americans from 1861 to the present vs had a four-year civil war never taken place..
And anyone who sincerely thinks that war was fought as a moral crusade against 'evil' slavery possesses the mind of a simple child and has been indoctrinated by 13 years of the public school system (K-12)
Personally I believe the war was completely unnecessary and could have easily been avoided had those who participated in the Continental Congress in 1787 had the guts to address certain issues and make very specific what the rule of law was to be.
First being the right of a US state to secede.
Nothing is specific regarding it.. States from Connecticut in the late 1700's to the Southern states in 1860 & '61 stated the 10th Amendment alluded to it..
Everything is implied.
If I could have gone back in time and magically become a delegate, I would have fought tooth and nail to establish the Convention answer the question 'Is secession legal once a state has ratified the Constitution?"
If secession is illegal, state it plainly so no one ever can parse words.
If secession was to be legal, state clearly the requirements - a 2/3 vote in a State Senate & Governor approval, perhaps?
Then when SC and others seceded, the US could do nothing to stop it.. the dissolution would have occurred peaceably and Lincoln would have been the criminal for sending troops to prevent a legal action.
Second is slavery itself..
The Constitution is very specific as to when the slave trade was to end i.e 1807
Why could it not be when it came to the institution itself?
Or state plain and equivocally that a state has the right to decide its own fate in regard to the matter and the National (Federal) government will make no imposition (meddle in a state's business)
And certainly these forward-thinking individuals had to know ultimately the 13 colony-states would ultimately seek to want to expand westward and that clear protections had to be made so one side of the argument did not hold dominance over the other.
Otherwise the southern states could have saved a lot of time & trouble and just formed their own nation in 1791.
But nothing specific was ever put down onto paper and voted 'yea' upon.
And the document that we're all taught to love and embrace because its so flexible and ambiguous and built upon that 'C' word, we're all supposed to adore - Compromise, caused a needless war a century after the fact
This nation still pays for that war in so many ways..
It killed a beautiful, vibrant culture known as the agrarian south and replaced it with NASCAR and boggin' (driving your pick up trucks into mud on purpose on hot summer days)
We still have to deal with an uppity black population, many being shiftless and lazy, that continually sucks the government's welfare teat dry while demanding every semblance of the once-great Confederacy be taken down and censored from view.
And as stated before, far many more people have been deprived the joy of life; of an existence over the last 150yrs because of the deaths of so many back then.
Such a shame the war had to take place..
And even bigger shame than the fact the wrong side won.
We will be back on Monday, January 4th..

One a very long, comprehensive list of every Muslim terror attack globally since January 1, 2014 and the other was a list of over a dozen acts of Muslim perpetrated blood terror on innocents Since the 11/23 attacks.
There was one list we had not provided -- The list of attempted Islamic attacks that were ultimately foiled by authorities.
January 18, 2015 - FBI and Philippine special forces kill Zulkifli bin Hir in Philippines after he had launched a plot to bomb the large Pope's mass in Rizal Park, which attracted a crowd of six million Christians. Hir was the leader of Jemaah Islamiyah, a south east Asian militant Islamist terrorist organization….
April 6, 2015 - 17 people were arrested for allegedly planning to commit a terrorist attack in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.
April 18, 2015 - Five teenagers who were arrested during counter-terror raids in Sydney, Australia were allegeldy planning an Islamic State-inspired attack during the ANZAC Day commemorations.
May 3, 2015 - Curtis Culwell Center attack - two gunman, armed with assault rifles and declaring allegiance to Islamic State, attempt to storm a free speech cartoon event in Garland, Texas, but were shot dead at the entrance by armed guards. One guard was slightly wounded, otherwise this attack was thwarted and no major violence inflicted.
May 8, 2015 - A 17-year-old Muslim is arrested in Greenvale, Melbourne for plotting to detonate home-made bombs.
May 28, 2015 - British couple arrested just days short of launching a major attack to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the London 7/7 bombings with intent to bomb a major mall or subway. Substantial quantities of chemicals and bomb-making wherewithal was found in their possession alleged in court proceedings.
November 2, 2015 - A Frenchman, after failing twice to travel to Syria to join ISIS, is arrested and charged for running a terror plot to attack military personnel at the main French naval base in Toulon.
November 3, 2015 - Spanish police arrested 3 Moroccans with strong ties to ISIS who were set to execute a "Charlie Hebdo" style attack in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
November 17, 2015 – German football match in Hanover was cancelled after French spies warned of ‘five bomb plot’ by five jihadists including a woman to carry out Paris-style attack on stadium -- Several suspicious packages were found
December 15, 2015 - Turkish police have detained a Syrian Islamic State militant suspected of planning a suicide attack against the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul. The U.S. Consulate was closed down the prior week due to this threat.
December 15, 2015 - A Palestinian and a Tunisian national were arrested after they tried to disarm soldiers stationed outside the historic Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome while yelling “Allah (God) is great”.
December 22, 2015 - Police arrest two men for plotting terror attacks in Orleans, France. They were plotting to kill police and army personnel in the central French city.
That is quite a list.. 16 foiled attacks to go along with the 50 or so attack successes in 2015.
But the Muslims have always been a brutal, violent, backwards people..
One whole millennium later, nothing about them changes..
Why? Their worthless 'Holy Book' tells them to and they will be rewarded in heaven for their barbarity with riches and virgin pussy
In addition, on this date in 2009, a Muslim piece of scum acted as a suicide bomber and killed 7 CIA agents in Afghanistan
Six letter word.. Starts with a 'M' and ends with a 'M'
Nope, not 'Mormon'.. they end with a 'N'
The fact is that 100% of All acts of terror, violence and bloodshed around the world directed at innocent civilians is being perpetrated by one specific religious cult-faith.
Those who believe in Islam..
And the Vast majority of those who may lead peaceful non-violent lives never speak out against the killers because deep down they agree with the motivations and feel the actions are justified, especially where Jews are concerned.
So out of necessity, governments do all they can to play the respect game.. 'Islam is peace.. Allah is love'.. Yadda Yadda..
Most know its total bullshit..
The War on Terror goes on and on.. It honestly may never end.
How can it when the enemy is so great in number, their holy book promotes and encourages the killing and a segment of the Judeo-Christian world would rather empathize and rationalize than say anything truthful to appear to demonize.
And so as individuals we can hope for a better 2016 if this current year wasn't happiness and joy, but don't expect the global picture to improve for the better..
How can it?

Can't help dwelling on mine.. It was that bad..
Don't worry.. plenty of time to talk later about a weak economy, a horrible President in the last year of ruining the nation and of course a horrible, cretinous woman running for the Presidency who feels more entitled to it than a silver-spoon child to inheritance..
It's not that the film was great in itself or even good..
I just love the premise.
Affleck plays a guy who growing up has had one shitty Christmas after another so ultimately he decides to try to create some kind of happiness and joy for the days leading up to and including the holiday by hiring a family and pretending to be a part of it.
Dare to admit it publicly, but secretly you know its a great concept.
It could be anything really..
Well, you just 'hire' people to play characters with the traits and qualities you would like to be around for the holidays,
Now of course reality always gets in the way of such delightful fantasies..
Then the reality that no one is perpetually happy and sprite to matter how much you're paying them to smile, laugh and express light-hearted glee in your presence..
So maybe that's why such a wonderful concept is best suited for a movie or fiction short story
This Christmas I had periods where both I was around family and had isolated time alone.. both had its happy moments
Yet it took a lot of work to feel decent inside..
Wonder if the capitalist economies of the Western world could survive?
Imagine a society where people celebrated the birth of Christ not with objects or decorative trees but with offering apologies to those each other's done wrong..
Then you in turn offering 'sorry' in kind, and everyone able to move ahead with a fresh slate..
Wouldn't that be a lovelier gift to receive than a sandwich maker?
Instead I was forced to see the same rotten rot bastard neighbors completely self-involved in their own family units and couldn't be bothered to even inquire how others were going to celebrate the season much less inquire how Christmas went..
It is like when 99.9% of people ask each other 'How are you'? and deep down they're thinking.. 'Uh-oh.. I overextended.. Please God, just have him/her say their "good"'..
I am positive you know people like this..
I know for a fact many people out there have felt similar at one Christmas time or another so can identify with what I'm talking about..
We all fantasize at one time or another about the holidays and 'family' but no one wants the arguments, the tensions or worse the feeling that you are doing all the work being perky while everyone else just sits around, sleeps late, ignores the decorations & contributes minimally to the joy
Few to none dare to envision being by themselves and what possibilities that can bring to a person with creativity and imagination.
So in a few days comes New Years' Eve, an event that lasts 60 seconds and celebrates the unknown with the eternal naive optimism of a child (or an adult [or underage teen] totally blotto drunk)
When it comes to things going on in the economy or the news, I personally do not hold out some magic hope that things will radically improve..
Maybe if Vice President Biden could actually become President by some magical circumstance (an Oreo impeachment, resignation, serious health-issue, etc..) over the next 12 months.. Would love to see what he could do as leader..
But when it comes to holidays, this year I will jump on the bandwagon of whistles, balloons, dropped balls and champagne and hope 2016 is much, much better for myself and for anyone out there reading who did not have the happy-lovely Christmas time they deserved.

Have to admit it was not a very joyous one for me this year.
Honestly.. It was plain awful; probably the worst since 2003 when I spent every day in December visiting a dear friend in a coma in ICU who eventually would pass away during New Years...
Now that was a rough Christmas season though I have no regrets whatsoever in spending my time with her vs the fluff and frivolity of shopping and watching holiday fare on TV.
Every year many people get to feeling this way during the Christmas holiday though few to any really openly admit it to others..
I spent different parts of the weekend trying to self-analyze why I felt so bah-humbug overall the last few weeks
It wasn't any sort of familial longings though I know I've upset many a close yet distant kin in writing that, and hopefully certain people won't take it all too literal
It was something more
I thought about the experience of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus though admittedly not in a religious context; I was more day-dreaming about whether overall, living was better then a little over 2000 years ago vs the present?
In terms of technology, invention and basic creature comforts like air conditioning, central heating and indoor plumbing, it seems a truly idiotic thought for present 2015 is vastly superior
But let's go beyond that a moment and look at family and social interaction
They also were actively involved in each other's daily life and sharing a meal with a sibling, an aunt/uncle or a grandparent wasn't such a big deal needing a holiday to motivate oneself to trek across the country..
If someone else wanted to start trouble with you, there wasn't this feeling of isolation because everyone who shared your bloodline would rally by your side as you'd rally to theirs
Today, people don't want to get involved, even if its family and so often brothers don't value sisters or stay in contact unless begrudgingly which only provokes sisters to take the same tack in response.
That is not how people who genuinely like and care about one another stay in touch, but merely a device the lazy and self-centered to fulfill obligations and everyone else has just over time gotten used to it as the norm.
Also back then, outside of work, there wasn't much in the way of visual or audio distraction to block out everyone around you.
And from this, you had a true sense of community.
Today, the only way you can get a family or neighborhood like that is to hire people to play parts of caring, concerned friends and loved-ones, as if casting for a play.
Everyone on my street doing their thing.. putting up holiday lights and decorating the tree and inviting (or forcing) the adult kiddies to drive/fly in to spend a few days with Maw an' Paw
Everyone insulated and detached; oblivious to anyone else..
"What do you want from me? I gave to the Salvation Army.. So what! -- Now I have to actually be aware of and give a crap about my fellow neighbor (or co-worker, or niece/nephew)??!!
Christmas is supposed to be a lovely time even for those who may not be religious or even for those who believe in another faith; all the lights, music and pageantry of it all
You evaluate who your real family and friends are; the ones you'd actually want to give blood or a kidney to save versus those in name only who are peripherally friendly/cordial at best
And there's no better time to see who's in your corner, both in word and gesture because love, to quote from the film 'Rob Roy' truly is a dunghill for the cock to climb upon and crow and few actions take less effort than to say 'I love you'
The proof is always in the actions, not the words.. Or the sex.
Can't make necessary changes until you know what needs changing.
But here's the thing..
If you are genuinely content and happy with oneself, then you will come to realize you're quite alright, and all the myriad of strangers wishing you Merry Christmas doesn't mean a thing.
He simply never became content being by himself; the fact he lived a life alone was one of happenstance, not choice.
If he had been content and fulfilled to live life by his lonesome, the holiday wouldn't have bothered him nor how any one else chose to celebrate it.
And that's what I realized in myself over the weekend.
Then again, it may have not.
Sometimes family is terrible and being alone is best..
So when I began to feel content as to what 'Is' vs what was not, then the Christmas spirit began to fill me as in years past.
When you control in your mind how you are to perceive the reality of your situation, then you can control your emotional reaction(s) and find happiness even in less than ideal circumstances.
And yes, this applies to New Years' Eve as well...

We will be back on Monday, Dec 28th
~ Merry Christmas ~
'The First Noel' -- It is a traditional classical English Christmas carol of the early 19th century with its current form of Cornish origin (Cornwall is located in the southwest part of England)
The melody is unusual among English folk melodies in that it consists of one musical phrase repeated twice, followed by a refrain which is a variation on that phrase
'Jingle Bells' -- Written and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. Even though it is now associated with the Christmas and holiday season, it was actually originally written for American Thanksgiving
The song was often used as a drinking song at parties: people would jingle the ice in their glasses as they sung.
Three years later, he wrote the poem for his church and his organist, Lewis Redner, added the music.
'Joy to the World' -- The words are by English hymn writer Isaac Watts, based on the second half of Psalm 98 in the Bible. The song was first published in 1719
The music was adapted and arranged to Watts' lyrics by Lowell Mason in 1839 from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel, not least because the theme of the refrain (And heaven and nature sing...) appears in the orchestra opening and accompaniment of the recitative Comfort ye from Handel's 'Messiah'
'Sleigh Ride' -- Composed by Leroy Anderson. The composer had the original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946 and finished the work in February 1948.
It was originally an instrumental piece; the lyrics, about a person who would like to ride in a sleigh on a winter's day with another person, were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950.
The orchestral version was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra
Although "Sleigh Ride" is often associated with Christmas, and appears on Christmas compilation albums, the song's lyrics mention no holiday or religion (apart from certain recordings, such as those by the Carpenters that substitute "Christmas party" for "birthday party" in the song's bridge)
'Happy Holiday' -- Happy Holiday" was introduced by Bing Crosby in the 1942 film Holiday Inn, where it is performed in a medley with the title song.
While it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song, in the film it is performed on New Year's Eve, and expresses a wish for the listener to enjoy "happy holidays" throughout the entire year.
For better or worse, the song helped to popularize the phrase "Happy Holidays" as a common greeting during the Christmas and holiday season in the United States
' My Favorite Things' -- A popular number from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical 'The Sound of Music.'
The song was first sung as a duet between Maria (played by Mary Martin) and Mother Abbess (Patricia Neway) in the original 1959 Broadway production and by Julie Andrews in The Garry Moore Show's 1961 Christmas special and the 1965 film.
The song was written to be sung by a young woman scared of facing new responsibilities outside the convent but the Winter-time imagery of the lyrics has made "My Favorite Things" a popular selection during the Christmas Holiday season,
The song mentions Silver White Winters, Whiskers on kittens, Snowflakes, Bright copper kettle, Warm-woolen mittens, Brown Paper Packages tied up with Strings, Sleigh Bells, Geese flying at night, etc
'Toyland' -- from the operetta 'Babes in Toyland', composed around 1903 by Victor Herbert with a libretto by Glen MacDonough which wove together various characters from Mother Goose nursery rhymes into a Christmas-themed musical extravaganza.
'The Little Drummer Boy' -- Originally known as "Carol of the Drum", written by American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 based on a traditional Czech carol.
It was recorded in 1955 by the Trapp Family Singers and further popularized by a 1958 recording by the Harry Simeone Chorale'I'll Be Home For Christmas' -- recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby; originally written to honor soldiers overseas who longed to be home at Christmastime
The song is sung from the point of view of a soldier stationed overseas during WWII, writing a letter to his family. In the message, he tells the family he will be coming home and to prepare the holiday for him, and requests snow, mistletoe, and presents on the tree.
The song ends on a melancholy note, with the soldier saying, "I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams".
When the song was originally pitched to people in the music business, they turned it down because the final line was too sad for all those separated from their loved ones in the military.
Bing ultimately decided to record it and it became a top-ten hit..______________________________
There are many many other Christmas & Holiday songs out there but hopefully you enjoyed the ones we presented..
